US stocks close session higher, post weekly gains
FXStreet (Córdoba) - US stocks closed the day higher with the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 posting their second weekly gain in a row helped by merger activity.
The DJIA rose above 18,000 and closed 0.55% higher at 18,057, while it gained 1.6% over the week. The S&P 500 advanced 0.52% at 2,102 and posted a 1.7% weekly rise. The Nasdaq Composite ended up 0.43% at 4,995 and recorded a 2.2% gain over the week.
Wall Street gains were helped by General Electric Co. (GE) announcing plans to restructure and buy back up to $50 billion of its stock. This sent GE shares to their highest since September 2008 and underpinned the DJIA.
